The FOD Finder TM XMV2 is state-of-the-art mobile foreign object debris (FOD) detection system that employs the latest millimeter wave radar chip and patented phased array technology enabling accurate and efficient FOD detection under any set of environmental conditions. The FOD Finder TM XMV elevates the runway inspector’s ability to detect and eliminate FOD in any condition, with documented effectiveness in subpar , low-visibility, conditions, including fog, rain , snow, or darkness.
FOD Finder is the only certified FOD detection system tested by the FAA with a 100% detection capability in all weather conditions (DOT/FANAR-11/12). FOD Finder™ has authorization to operate the low-power radar system on airport locations(FCC 17-94).
Safety: FOD Finder™ is a revolutionary technology tool used by airports in the combat against the estimated $4 Billion U.S. dollars in damage and loss of aircraft utilization. The detection, interrogation, verification, and cataloging of runway debris is FAA Part 139 and ICAO compliant with database management and tracking.
Reliability: With solid-state construction and no moving parts. FOD Finder™ detects FOD in real-time in all weather. fog, rain, snow and sandstorm. at day and night.
Cost: Maximizes airport efficiency by reducing runway Downtime for inspection proving the airport logistics and operations. Sustainment costs of system upkeep are minimum.

I recently commented on a video from Trex (the company responsible for the FOD Finder), I mentioned that I wasn’t keen on the pen input for the tablet device displayed in their video. Grant Bishop (COO at TREX Aviation Systems) has sent an update (see below) to FOD detection.com which describes the latest updates to the FOD Finder system (including the use of an iPad):
Trex FOD Finder™ XF is a fixed‐site FOD detection system designed for 24/7 continuous runway monitoring.
Trex FOD Finder™ XM is a mobile FOD detection and retrieval system designed for runway, taxiway and apron operation. XM can be operated at driving speeds up to 50 Km per hour.
For a typical 4000 meter runway, it requires a total of nine (9) FOD Finder nodes, and each node consists of a FOD Finder XF and a Camera as shown below.
